Geneticist consultation

What is a geneticist?

A geneticist is a doctor who specialises in diagnosing genetic diseases by analysing a patient’s clinical symptoms, laboratory data, medical and life history. The geneticist advises on health problems that may be genetically inherited or could be passed on to children, recommends further tests to confirm the diagnosis, and provides information about treatment, if any.

How does a genetic counselling session work?

During a genetic consultation, a doctor performs a clinical examination, diagnoses genetic diseases, prescribes genetic tests, interprets the results, assesses the risk of recurrence and makes recommendations for further treatment and follow-up.
