Hepatologist consultation

What is a hepatologist?

Hepatologist is a doctor who specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of liver diseases.

A hepatologist should be consulted if there are complaints of right-sided abdominal pain or discomfort, itchy or jaundiced skin, a bitter taste in the mouth, abnormal liver parameters (markers), elevated bilirubin levels, or any changes detected on investigations such as ultrasound scans.

How does a hepatology consultation work?

During the consultation, the hepatologist will ask about your complaints, review previous examinations and blood tests. The hepatologist will assess the need for further tests to obtain the most accurate information about your liver health.
