What is a spirography test?
Spirography or spirometry is an examination that helps to assess the health of the lungs to diagnose possible health problems early. Spirography checks the airflow rate in the airways, lung volume and the relative age of the lungs. It allows early detection of changes in lung function and diagnosis of asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other lung diseases before the onset of symptoms. Spirography can determine whether the lung volume is sufficient or reduced, which is characteristic of several diseases (heart failure, spinal deformity, adiposity, interstitial lung diseases).

When should I have a spirography?
A spirography scan should be done if you have:
- shortness of breath;
- frequent respiratory diseases;
- prolonged coughing, expectoration, sniffling or chest noises when breathing;
- bronchial asthma, pneumoconiosis, pulmonary polycystosis;
- occupational risks.
