Which disease risks does the test assess?
The Future Health Test assesses your individual risk of developing five common chronic diseases over the next 10 years:
- myocardial infarction (heart attack);
- ischaemic stroke;
- type 2 diabetes;
- chronic kidney disease;
- fatty liver disease.
The test is intended for adults up to the age of 65.
How is this test different from routine blood tests?
The test offered by the Heart Clinic together with Nightingale Health uses advanced, innovative technology to analyse the blood sample. Rather than relying on conventional chemical reagents, the sample is analysed using a specialised nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy technique.
This technology is used by more than 200 medical research institutions in 30 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Finland, Japan and Singapore, and its performance is supported by more than 900 internationally cited publications. No other technology in the world has a comparable body of scientific and clinical evidence.
What do the results show?
A single blood sample is analysed for more than 40 biomarkers, including cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoproteins, markers of glucose metabolism, creatinine, fatty acids, amino acids and inflammatory markers.
Unlike the conventional approach, in which each marker is interpreted on its own, the Nightingale Health laboratory uses a proprietary method that analyses all 40-plus biomarkers together to calculate your individual disease risks. The test also determines your metabolic age and metabolic resilience score.
Why take the test, and how often?
The Future Health Test is designed to reveal potential disease risks before any illness or symptoms appear, so that you and your doctor can consider in good time what can be done to protect your health.
The test can be repeated after 3–12 months to track how your results change. The sooner you know your risks, the more time you have to reduce them.
SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
A study published in a European Society of Cardiology journal shows that adding Nightingale metabolomic risk scores to the standard SCORE2 risk assessment, followed by targeted clinical intervention, could prevent 44% more heart attacks and strokes than SCORE2 alone.
