Consultation with a cardiologist

Before the consultation (both in person and remotely), you are asked to prepare and present to the specialist at least the following examination results and medical records:

• blood test results (preferably from earlier blood tests, so that changes in dynamics can be assessed);
• the results of previous cardiac tests (electrocardiogram, echocardiogram);
• previous investigations related to the vascular system, lungs, abdominal organs, thyroid or nervous system;
• a list of medicines you take on a daily basis (exact name, dosage, route of administration);
• previous hospital discharge summaries.

Our cardiologists provide consultations both in person and remotely via video call. Although remote specialist consultations are becoming increasingly popular nowadays, research shows that it is preferable to consult a cardiologist in person, especially for the first time. This enables the specialist to better assess the patient’s heart health. If you want to have a preventive heart health check-up or a consultation with a cardiologist to confirm your diagnosis and develop a treatment plan, we recommend that you book a face-to-face consultation.

Remote consultation may be an option if you have met with a cardiologist before and the specialist monitors and observes your health. Remote consultation may also be an option if you are undergoing treatment with another doctor and want to get another specialist’s opinion. In this case, all examinations and previous reports by other specialists must be available electronically.

During the consultation, the cardiologist will ask you about your complaints, review your medical history and previous examinations, and check the list of medications you are taking. If necessary, they will also carry out tests, create or adjust a treatment plan and explain the risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

If necessary, your cardiologist will refer you for additional tests to get the most accurate and detailed information about your cardiovascular health. After the tests, your cardiologist will create the most appropriate prevention or treatment plan for you. If necessary, your cardiologist will suggest other specialists to be involved in your treatment plan: rheumatologist, endocrinologist, neurologist, pulmonologist, allergist or physiotherapist.

The clinic offers a wide range of diagnostic options:

• echocardiography (cardiac EHO, cardiac ultrasound, echocardiogram);
• electrocardiography (ECG);
• 24-hour blood pressure monitoring;
• Holter monitoring;
• Cycling ergometry or cardiac exercise test;
• blood tests.

The outcome of a cardiology consultation depends on the purpose of the visit, the patient’s condition and symptoms. At the consultation, you will learn or clarify your heart health status, receive a personalised treatment plan and gain knowledge about heart health and prevention.
